This book, about the politics of running a major airport, especially during a crisis (in this case, a massive snow storm, which causes the closure of one of the major runways). As Hailey did exhaustive research on this topic before writing this book (indeed, a huge amount of research was always done by Hailey on all of his books), much of the facts in this book are still relevant today. This book became a huge bestseller, and inspired an equally successful film (released in 1970) starring Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin, and Jacqueline Bisset.

Arthur Hailey (1920-2004), a British/ Canadian novelist, was a phenomenally successful writer, known for his extensive research, gripping action, and multiple plot lines. Though critics felt that his multiple plot lines were his way of camouflaging a lack of writing ability, his books were much beloved by the reading public and were virtually guaranteed to become best sellers.
