Bound in contemporary half crushed olive levant morocco over marbled boards, spines tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, top edges gilt, marbled end-papers. Some light rubbing, 8 volumes with mild chipping to head-caps, else a near fine set.
This is one of the best and most complete surveys of English poetry up to the mid-nineteenth century. Poets include: Burns (three volumes), Thomson (two volumes), Collins, Kirke-White, Cowper (three volumes), Surrey, Wyatt, Beattie, Pope (three volumes), Goldsmith, Milton (three volumes), Shakespeare, Dryden (five volumes), Parnell, Swift (three volumes), Young (two volumes), Akenside, Butler (two volumes), Prior (two volumes), Falconer, Gray, Spenser (five volumes), Churchill (three volumes), and Chaucer (six volumes).
