Quarto. [xxx], 1-369, [1, signed limitation page] pp. With fourteen inserted plates, including two double paged plates and a frontispiece. Publisher's quarter dark green sheepskin over crimson English buckram, spine and front cover stamped in gilt, top edge gilt. Slight rubbing to spine, still a fine copy. With original, slightly rubbed and sunned, slipcase.

Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was one of the most prolific and successful English-language novelist and poet of his day, and the first to have an international following. Not only is he known for his famous novels (Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, Waverley, etc.), but also for inventing the "historical novel."
