Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was one of the most prolific and successful English-language novelist and poet of his day, and the first to have an international following. Not only is he known for his famous novels (Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, Waverley, etc.), but also for inventing the "historical novel."
