Soon after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, a young artist named Rey Vila took up the name Sim and began travelling with an anti-Nationalist militia to document their story. The resulting work, Estampas de la Revolucion Espanola 19 Julio de 1936, became one of the most widely known arpieces of the Spanish Civil War. Sim's images of men and women in battle, marching through streets, and tending the wounded capture the spirit of the people's fight against fascism.
