Selected Essays on the Dynamics of the Capitalist Economy. 1933-1970 Cambridge: University Press, 1971.
First edition.
Octavo. vii, 197 pp., including index and numerous diagrams. Original full blue cloth, spine printed in red and lettered in gilt. A near fine copy with near fine original dust jacket.
First edition of Michal Kalecki's essays on capitalist economy, containing his most significant contributions to the field.
Michał Kalecki (1899 – 1970) was one of the foremost economists of the twentieth century. Although Kalecki is frequently regarded as a follower of John Maynard Keynes, Kalecki's work often predated Keynes'. For instance, Kalecki's Essay on Business Cycle Theory (1933) postulated the capitalist economy as a demand-determined system three years before the publication of Keynes's General Theory. However, because Kalecki frequently published in his native Polish, Keyne's work generally receives more recognition in the English-speaking world.
