A Key into the Language of America. Providence: The Rhode Island and Providence Plantations Tercentenary Committee, Inc., 1936.
Fifth edition, reprint of the original 1643 edition. One of only 150 numbered copies printed on Worthy Signature paper. This is copy no. 148.
Octavo. [xxviii], 205, [5] pp., including limitation page and facsimile of the first edition title page. Original printed boards backed with black cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Light rubbing and soiling to extremities, previous owner's signature to front flyleaf, light toning to front endpapers, but still a very good copy of this scarce work.
An excellent limited edition reprint of this important work, the first book on Native American languages ever printed in English. The guide, written by Rhode Island founder Roger Williams, also features observations on the manners and customs of Native Americans during the colonial era.
