First White Women Over the Rockies. Diaries, Letters, and Biographical Sketches of the Six Women of the Oregon Mission who made the Overland Journey in 1836 and 1838. [ Glendale, California: The Arthur H. Clark Company, [1963; 1966].
First edition. Volumes VI, VII, and VIII of the Northwest Historical Series.
Complete in three octavo volumes. 280; 382; 332 pp., including numerous illustrations and with one fold-out map. Blue publisher's cloth, spines lettered in gilt. Minor rubbing to extremities, still a near fine, partially unopened copy.
A lovely set of this important work, tracing the journeys of the six women who journeyed west during the 1830's as part of the Oregon Mission. The Mission, which began as an attempt to convert Native Americans in the far west to Christianity, played a significant role in the westward expansion of America, and helped to define the current border between the United States and Canada.
