Beautifully decorated green publisher's cloth, top edges stained green, illustrated endpapers. Lovely watercolor owner's inscription to endpaper dated 1917. Mild rubbing and soiling to extremities, hinges starting but sound. A very good copy.
A beautifully produced edition of Spenser's first major poetic work.
Edmund Spenser (1552-1599) was an important poet (the Poet Laureate) of his day, perhaps most famous for his epic poem, The Faerie Queene (1590). His work guided the development of modern English verse, then in its infancy.
