About Us: Selling Books & Appraisals

Selling Books:

We appreciate your interest in our store. We do buy books, quite selectively, with the intention of continually upgrading our collection. Our focus is on the rare, collectible and antiquarian, though we do occasionally buy select items for our general stock.

What we look for:

We buy rare books, manuscripts, maps, original photographs, prints, antique bookends and select ephemera in excellent condition. Our wants and needs vary, but we are particularly interested in major works in the fields of literature, science, history, poetry, fine printing, photography, music and philosophy, though we will consider important items from any other fields.

Some examples of what we do not look for:

If you have books that you would like us to consider for purchase, we will need a certain amount of basic information in order to decide if it may potentially be of interest to us:

If you have more than a handful of items, we ask that you please make a list with the above information and either fax or e-mail it to us at 310-441-8565 or info@dragonbooks.com.

If you have a large collection of books, please send us a list of what you feel are the ten most important/valuable or representative items.

Once we have received your list, an associate will contact you within a few days to let you know if we need any additional information, or to schedule an appointment to come see your collection. We ask that you please do not ship books to us or bring them into our shop unless an associate has asked you to do so.

Please bear in mind that we do not purchase all of the books offered to us. Only a small percentage of all books ever printed have significant collectible value. Many are not first editions, are not in collectible condition, may be incomplete, or are simply not representative of our stock. We invite you to browse through our website to get an idea of what we do carry.

Please note that except for existing customers, we are unable to offer free appraisals or estimates of value.
